SimRTK V5 Begins . . .

It is now January, 220 AD - Civil Phase.

China is consumed by chaos. It has been over twenty years since the Imperial Han fell to the Yellow Turbans and the country fell to internal strife and banditry. Over that time, countless pretenders have risen to power and deemed themselves to be the heir to the Han, and all have been proven wrong and destroyed. The oppressed citizenry, tired of the abuse they suffer, cry out for real heroes to lead them and rescue them.

As the new year dawns, another group of warlords is prepared to try to take on this challenge. The means they used to acquire their power varies, but all now have solidifed their cities and look to expand. The people of their cities remain somewhat fearful, worried that the peace brought by their lords might be fleeting, but it is still preferrable to the lawless banditry suffered by most of the realm. Of these warlords, which shall rise to power? Is one of them destined to become the new Emperor, to guide China into a new Dynasty? Or is this more false hope, a precursor to yet more bloody, inconclusive battles that will leave the land even more devastated than it currently is?

Twenty-two rulers. One China. It's on.

January, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now January, 220 AD - Military Phase.

The warlords throughout the land begin to consolidate their power, with worthy officers emerging from farms, villages and cities alike to offer their aid. The development of cities, the drafting of troops and the scouting for personnel all take place. What does not yet take place is any militaristic expansion. None of the land's rulers wish to try pushing beyond their current borders yet, aware that the other cities, even lawless ones, have militias prepared to defend them from foreign threats. Wisely, the warlords bide their time and prepare their forces, so that when they finally do move, they will be able to enjoy victory.

There are no invasions this month. Once searches, spy results and Personal Turn results are gathered, the turn change will be posted and February will begin. That shouldn't take longer than a few days!

The warlords throughout the land begin to reap the benefits of their tentative peace. With shabby militias slowly becoming more respectable fighting forces, it's only a matter of time before the governors begin to turn their attention beyond their own city walls. The fell spectre of war looms once more over the Middle Kingdom, which has already suffered so much.

A reminder for rulers: If you decide to submit a mobilization this turn, whether it's building a fort, invading a free city, or attacking another ruler, please be sure to format the invasion correctly as detailed in the rules. We're using a new method of formatting that lets us plug the data straight into a battle calculator, which can help shave an hour or two off the time required to run battles. If you can take the time to format things properly, we can resolve your battles that much faster and with that much less annoyance, which means that the turn changes will continue to come quickly.

And be sure as well to PM them to both myself and the Forum Administration account! I probably won't be online for this upcoming turn change, so Forum Administration will likely need to be invoked. This will be a bad turn to forget to send PMs to both recipients!

As she is searching, she stumbles across a pirate secret meeting place. Gasping in surprise, she allerts the pirates of her presence. She quickly decides playing dumb is the way to go and simply asks to use the bathroom, speaking to them as if they were Emperors or Rock Stars. They were so surprised by her behaviour that they let her leave without incident. It sure is good that she can act . . . It was an act, right?

February, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now February, 220 AD - Military Phase.

In contrast to last month's placid planning, February is a flurry of action! On the low end of the spectrum, soldiers from Shang Dang set out to occupy Hu Guan and Han Gu Guan, Yang Hu is situated where these moves cannot be contested. Similarly, Li Jun in Yun Nan send a party to Xin Gu to construct a fort, however this can be contested by Huang Yu of Jiao Zhi and the big, blue Shi Wukong in Wu Wei builds a fort in Di Dao, which can be contested by Chen Wei in Tianshui. Chen Wei also has the option of contesting Meng Guo's advancing forces, sent to occupy Mian Zhu Guan. Meng Guo is also attempting to occupy Jian Ge Guan, which can be contested by Li Zhong of Hanzhong.

Six potential battles, and those are just the forts and gates... In the rich province of Jingzhou, the Miao peoples seek to expand their influence, with Miao Li Yao invading Ling Ling. In the Central Plains Xiao Huang of Xu Chang invades Wan. Also in that region, Pu Yang is invaded... TWICE! The forces of Zhang Gao in Bei Hai and Chen Ping in Chen Liu converge upon the city, what will happen when they meet? Not to be outdone, the south explodes as well! Huang Yu in Jiao Zhi and Ma Qingcao in Jian An invade Nan Hai!

In other news Lu Ning is dead, leaving the kingdom of Changsha in turmoil. Rumors are unclear and contradictory at this point, but indicate internal strife. No further details are available.

Potentially 8 battles to sort out, so this phase may take a little time. Details on options will be given to the kingdoms in question, who then have 24 hours to make their decisions. Once they've made up their minds (or 24 hours, whichever comes first) we'll run any battles. Once battles, searches, and PTs are finished, we will wrap up the turn and begin March. Have fun!

A fire breaks out in Jian An. Cries of pain and anguish can be heard coming from the city's barracks. The citizens work with those who were able to get out to carry water buckets to put out the fire. Jian An suffers: 36 (0) troop loss; and 2% PS loss.

February, 220 AD - Military Phase has ended. It is now March, 220 AD - Civil Phase.

The first rumblings of war throughout the fractured land draw to a close at the end of February. In the northwest, an attempt by Shi Wukong to build a fort at Didao is disrupted by Chen Wei's forces, leaving the lands between their cities undefended. Xiao Huang successfully claims Wan, while Miao Li Yao likewise claims Ling Ling. Both invasion forces suffered losses in the attempts, however, due to the stubborn resistance of the local officials and militias.

In the south, Huang Yu defeats Ma Qingcao's army outside Nan Hai, moving on to seize the city afterwards, again taking some damage in the process. Meanwhile, the clash between Chen Ping and Zhang Gao over Pu Yang drags on into this month with no winner in sight.

Other attempts to seize territory prove more fruitful. Yang Hu occupies Han Gu Guan and Hu Guan without anyone to stop him, while Meng Guo's movements towards Jian'Ge and Mian Zhu Guan are likewise uncontested. With Jian An's forces busy marching east, Li Jun builds his fort at Xin Gu unmolested.

These aren't the only military activities throughout the land, though... in the north, there come reports of the Wuwan barbarians beginning to muster their forces. The suddenness of their assault comes as a surprise to all the lords. Sweeping down from the north, they fall upon the frontier city of Xiang Ping in a fury. The governor, Sun Haifeng, is nowhere to be found, apparently having fled the city. His remaining officers are no match for the barbarian fury, as Xiang Ping's forces are crushed and the city sacked. Every remaining defender is put to the sword, and the Wuwan forces depart, having achieved whatever bloodthirsty goal they had in mind.

Sun Haifeng's kingdom has been destroyed!

(inactivity and missing KTs, coupled with the player still taking the time to post on other websites and a complete lack of PC officers to succeed him, leave us to remove the kingdom. Replacing it with a GMNPC, in Xiang Ping, really doesn't do much good. So Xiang Ping is now an empty city, and one more player is added to our 'ruler blacklist'. :wink:

Feeling giddy after his success with Bo Rao, Lu He wasn't paying much attention on his way home. Rounding a corner, he finds himself facing 3 drunken pirates. Yarrrrr. Disgruntled about not being able to find anything for his lord, Yang Yue sits down on a log at the edge of the woods and pouts. So focused on his own failures he doesn't notice the low growl from behind. It wasn't until the tiger roared that Yang Yue became aware he was there. Seeing that the tiger was about to end his life, Yue swung his book bag as hard as he could, cracking the tiger on the skull. March, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now March, 220 AD - Military Phase.

As the land's tax collectors start to rub their hands in anticipatory glee, the lords throughout China make their last-minute moves to attempt to increase their income by finding new, uncharted cities to bleed dry. As a result, a number of invasions break out!

Li Jun's forces are the busiest, as they invade both Yong Chang and Jian Ning, as well as move to build forts at Yue Juan and Jian Yan! Li Zhong doesn't want to be left too far behind, as he invades both Chang'an and Wu Du from Han Zhong, as well as moving to occupy Yang Ping Guan!

Shen Hu's forces in Ru Nan invade Xin Ye! Xiao Huang's forces in Wan march on Wu Guan! Huang Xiong's forces in Wu attack Jian Ye and Shou Chun! Meng Guo's forces invade Cheng Du and Jiang Zhou from Zi Tong! He also tries to invade Cheng Du from Jian'ge, but cannot, as that's too far away. You can't invade through cities, people! Chen Wei's forces in Tian Shui invade Xi Ping! Yang Hu's forces in Shang Dang invade He Nei!

In the north, Yu Houyi's forces in Bei Ping strike at what's left of Xiang Ping! However, at the same time, Huangfu Chu's forces in Ji attack Bei Ping! Meanwhile, in the south, Ma Qingcao's forces in Jian An invade Nan Hai! And finally, Chen Ping sends reinforcements to Pu Yang! And finally, Miao Li Yao's forces in Wu Ling invade Jiang Ling! Though they might not find exactly what they're expecting there...

That's a lot of violence.

For those who are either being attacked or have an opportunity to prevent fort-building/gate-capturing, expect notes to be posted in your Admin Communications Thread soon. For those who attempted arsons, expect the results of those to be editted into this post later tonight. Only one of the arson plots will have an actual effect on a battle, should it succeed.

Once the battles are resolved, PTs and searches are done, and taxes are calculated, we'll advance to the April turn!

A person is seen skulking around Bei Ping, but leaves without incident.

Fires break out in Bei Hai! The soldiers there get the flames under control quickly as well, minimizing what could have been a major disaster. Bei Hai loses 952 food and 47 PS. As the weary soldiers return to their barracks, they spot another person rubbing sticks together suspiciously... The soldiers do their best to corner the man, but he still manages to escape--Although not before taking a 5% injury in his haste.

March, 220 AD - Military Phase has ended. It is now April, 220 AD - Civil Phase.

It seems as if all of China erupted in battle this past month. Li Jun took control of Yong Chang and Jian Ning, as well as building forts at Yue Juan and Jian Yan! Li Zhong seized control of Chang'an and Wu Du, as well as occupying Yang Ping Guan!

Shen Hu takes Xin Ye! Xiao Huang envelops Wu Guan! Huang Xiong takes control of Jian Ye and Xia Pi! Meng Guo takes over in Cheng Du and Jiang Zhou! Chen Wei takes Xi Ping! Yang Hu moves into He Nei!

In the north, Yu Houyi takes Xiang Ping, but Bei Ping is attacked and is in for an extended battle as Huangfu Chu presses his attack on that city! Meanwhile, in the south, Ma Qingcao takes one look at the army facing him in Nan Hai, turns tail and runs! Chen Ping Takes Pu Yang! Miao Li Yao finds Jiang Ling to be missing their governing body. The city was abandoned, and the people left to fend for themselves. The city now falls under the Miao banner.

In other news, Pan Ji Fa steps down, and rising out of the officer ranks is Xiang Quan. He takes over ruling in Shang Yong. Meanwhile, it becomes generally known that the new ruler of Chang Sha is one Sui Xiao, who apparently staged a coup of the former ruler Lu Ning and replaced the old guard with her own henchmen. Her plans for the region remain to be seen.

April, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now April, 220 AD - Military Phase.

With life as a warlord not proving as lucrative as some had hoped, the various powers vying for control of China consider the best way to go forward. Perhaps more development is needed? Perhaps they should increase taxes? Unsurprisingly, the solution many of them decide upon is rampant expansion, and as a result, China is again plunged into war.

Shen Hu's forces in Xin Ye invade Jiang Xia! Kan Ze's forces in Lu Jiang invade Chai Sang! Kan Ze also mobilizes a force to build a fort at He Fei! Xiao Huang's forces from Xu Chang and Wan invade Luo Yang! Xiao Huang also mobilizes a force to seize Hu Lao Guan! Huang Xiong's forces in Xia Pi, Jian Ye and Wu all invade Shou Chun! Xiang Quan's forces in Shang Yong invade Xiang Yang! Chen Ping's forces in Pu Yang invade Xiao Pei! Meng Guo's forces in Jiang Zhou invade Yong'An! Sui Xiao's forces in Chang Sha invade Gui Yang, and also move to build a fort at Hangsong! And finally, Miao Li Houa moves to build a fort at Yi Ling!

In the only new invasion of an established power, Shi Wukong's forces in Wu Wei invade Tian Shui!

Both Huangfu Chu and Yu Houyi send reinforcements to Bei Ping, from Ji and Xiang Ping respectively!

In Tian Shui a shadowy figure trying to start fires is later identified as Hseih Shen of Wu Wei, but Hseih gets away before any harm can come to him. Elsewhere, fires break out in Chen Liu and Pu Yang. In Chen Liu 10(0) are killed and -56 PS is lost, while the over-crowded barracks in Pu Yang claim 22(25), with -38 PS lost. Furthermore, Pu Yang loses 1 Bow and 1 Heavy Arms, rendered useless in the blaze.

Estimates of invading forces/fort building teams will be posted shortly in the relevant Planning Halls. The reinforcements at Bei Ping will be posted soon as well, so that that battle can continue. The Military Phase for April will end once the battles are resolved, and PTs/searches are calculated!

Huang Xiong takes control of Shou Chun! Xiang Quan takes control of Xiang Yang! Chen Ping takes control of Xiao Pei! Meng Guo takes control of Yong An! Chen Wei's forces successfully repel the armies of Shi Wukong at Tian Shui! After the long seige at Bei Ping, Huangfu Chu manages to send Yu Houyi's armies running and takes the city!

Word has begun reaching out from Hui Ji. A plague has hit the city, killing hundreds of people. Rumor has it that Ma Ren was among the casualties, but his body was not found. Was he able to escape the sweeping sickness? Only time will tell as the city begins deteriorating.

Chaos continues to spread throughout China as the lords vie amongst themselves for dominance.

Some lords move to build fortifications. Li Jun's forces move to build a fort at Han Jia, while Shen Hu's forces mobilize to build a fort at Che!

Chen Ping's forces in Chen Liu invade Ye! Ma Qingcao's forces in Jian An invade Hui Ji! Zhang Gao's forces in Bei Hai invade Ping Yuan!

After the battles of last month, two reversals take place, as Chen Wei's forces in Xi Ping invade Wu Wei, and Yu Houyi's forces in Bei Ping invade Ji!

And finally, Huang Yu's forces invade.. ..actually, they're not even sure where they're coming from, let alone where they're going. The armies wander around aimlessly for a time before giving up and going home, with no target city apparently having been chosen.

A riot breaks out in Cheng Du (-33 Com; -30 Ag; -20 Infra; -27 PS). A riot also breaks out in Xi Ping (-36 Com; -30 Ag; -24 Infra; -25 PS). While the riot is taking place, a fire breaks out in the barracks (14 (5) troops die; -26 PS; 2 heavy arms are destroyed).

The June turn will begin once the battles, searches and PTs are all done!

Yang Shang takes control of Cheng Du, while Zhan Junkuo takes control in Jiao Zhi. Following a mysterious agreement, a new faction arises in the Ba region, formerly controlled by Meng Guo. The whispers throughout the land tell of a fearsome force of officers, a cadre the likes of which few have seen. Is China ready for the power of the Zhang Yis?

Elsewhere, there were battles. Ma Qingcao's small force fails to defeat the Hui Ji militia, while Chen Ping and Zhang Gao have more success in claiming Ye and Ping Yuan respectively. Xiao Huang disrupts the fort being built at Che, while the lands formerly controlled by Meng Guo do the same for the fort at Han Jia. The battles in both Ji and Wu Wei remain undecided and drag on into this month, though because the battle in Ji is a field battle, the city of Ji shall still be able to take a Kingdom Turn.

It had been a long morning spent traipsing around trying to find people to serve his lord. How he hated this type of stuff. Perhaps he would play hooky after lunch . . . Or better yet, play hooky and still get paid for it. Sitting by a small stream, the man was fishing and having quite a good run of luck. Suddenly he felt eyes on him. Just as Huai was about to stand up, there was a growl and he felt claws tearing into his back. The motion of falling pulled the fish out of the water and the tiger snatched the fish up for his dinner and slowly moved back into the woods. Yang Huai suffers a 9% injury.

June, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now June, 220 AD - Military Phase.

In Chang Sha, Sui Xiao is said to have retired, the burden of ruling becoming too great. Perhaps she should have thought about that before attempting to stage a coup to gain control... whatever the case, Gao Wu steps up to rule in her place.

A fire breaks out at the barracks in Bei Ping! 7(17) troops and 1 horse are killed, and the city loses 48 PS.

In Nan Hai, an attempted arsonist is spotted and identified as Jiang Wen! However, he manages to flee before being arrested.

As battle rages on in Ji, Yu Houyi sends reinforcements from Bei Ping to aid in the struggle!

After Hui Ji had withstood last month's attack from Ma Qingcao, Huang Xiong invades it! However, Ma Qingcao also invades Hui Ji at the same time! Unless something peaceful can be worked out, both armies will have to battle each other before facing the free city's militia. In He Bei, Yang Hu's forces move to build a fort at He Dong, and also invade Jin Yang! Li Zhong's forces also move to build a fort at Qi Shan! And Shen Hu's forces move to build a fort at Che, again!

Chen Wei's forces in Tian Shui invade An Ding! However, at the same time, Li Zhong's forces in Chang'An and Han Zhong invade Tian Shui! As well, Li Jun's forces in Yun Nan invade Jiao Zhi, while Ma Qingcao's forces in Jian An invade Nan Hai!

Invasion estimates will be posted in the relevant Planning Halls shortly, at which point the defenders will have 24 hours to post their lineups in the Admin Comm threads. The same will happen for those in position to interrupt fort-building.

The July turn will begin once the battles, searches and Personal Turns are completed!

June, 220 AD - Military Phase has ended. It is now July, 220 AD - Civil Phase.

There seems to be an epidemic of people breaking their word as treaties begin to crumble . . .

Li Zhong with his attack on Chen Wei; Li Jun with his attack on Zhan Junkuo; Yang Shang, the successor to Meng Guo who attacked the fort building troops from Li Zhong; Xiao Huang taking offense at Shen Hu's second attempt to build a fort at Che; Huang Xiong failing to pay Zhang Gao compensation for the loss of a city. Is it any wonder our land is in chaos? Is there anyone who will rise above this and bring our land together?

Lun Zhi, who serves Li Jun is spotted in Zi Tong! Why was he there? Social visit, or something else?

Wu Wei falls to the forces of Tian Shui! Rumors have it that Shi Wukong was executed for his belief that he was more than a mere mortal. With Chen Wei still on a high over that victory, they are now dealing with their own fight for the right to survive! Li Zhong's attack on Tian Shui have put the city into a siege (No KT for July)!! This battle will continue into July.

The Qi Shan Fort builders are fighting tooth and nail to get their fort built, but the armies of Yang Shang refuse to let them do it. This fight will carry over into next month.

On the other side of China, Ji struggled in their battle against Bei Ping. Unfortunately it would take more than winning a duel to save them . . . Their forces crumbled, and Ji fell . . . Yang Hu takes the city of Jin Yang and builds a fort at He Dong.

In the south, Jiao Zhi attempted to repel the invaders from Yun Nan. But alas, they turned out being more than they could handle. But the battle in Nanhai proved victorious for Zhan Junkuo, as he was able to defend against the Jian An invaders.

The fight between Ma Qingcao and Huang Xiong over the lawless city of Hui Ji took all month to resolve! Huang Xiong came out on top, and pushed forward to claim Hui Ji as their own.

The fort at Che remains unconstructed for the second month . . . Will Shen Hu try again to build the fort there? Only time will tell.

July, 220 AD - Civil Phase has ended. It is now July, 220 AD - Military Phase.

As the peasantry reluctantly hands over their taxes, the process is disrupted in some areas by military force. The turmoil between warlords shows no signs of slowing.

In Xin Ye, the barracks is lit on fire, causing sizable damage! (-36(0) troops, -45 PS, -1 Bow, -2 Heavy Arms, -1 Horse) However, the arsonist is spotted in the process. They notice that he's Jiang Hu, from Xiao Huang's kingdom! He tries to run, but the guards are summoned and move to try to surround him. Will he be able to escape? (this capture attempt will be run as a plot by Liu Sun starting tomorrow, he will inform the relevant people of the RP thread it will occur in)

A barracks in Wu is also burned. Wu sustains -3(82) troops, -61 PS, -1 Horse, -2 Bows.

In the northwest, Chen Wei sends reinforcements from Wu Wei to Tian Shui! In the northeast, Yu Houyi's forces in Ji invade Nan Pi!

Elsewhere, Huang Xiong's forces in Hui Ji invade Jian An! His forces in Jian Ye also move to build a fort at Nan Chang!

Li Jun's forces in Jiao Zhi move to build a fort at Cang Wu!

In Jingzhou (and in five seperate PMs, for some ungodly reason), Miao Li Houa invades Chang Sha from Jiang Ling and Wu Ling, invades Hangsong and Gui Yang from Ling Ling, and moves to build a fort at Hua Rong from Jiang Ling!

Estimates for defending forces will be posted in the necessary Planning Halls shortly, so that defending force posts can be made. The August Civil Phase will begin once the battles are done, and searches/Personal Turn results are gathered.
