Map of Nan Hai
Notes: The Jiao Zhi army sets up along the western road, while the Jian An army sets up along the eastern road. Rules for placing your units are here. Because Nan Hai is a Free City, once the armies have fought one another, they must then fight the defenders of Nan Hai--And, no, you're not going to find out who or what they are, so don't bother to ask ;) If you are victorious against the opposing kingdom, you may choose to retreat from the City if you do not wish to try your luck against the city defenders. Finally, it very likely will not matter, but there's a road exit to the north, that isn't an option for this battle, but I mention it because it's somewhat hidden underneath the hills (our map program is funny that way).

Please send tactics to Liu Sun within 24 hours, thank you.

Battle of Di Dao
The army of the smurf-like Shi Wukong advanced towards Di Dao cautiously, bulky supplies impeding their march. A cloud on the horizon, heralding either a thunderstorm or an approaching army from Tian Shui, sent some concern through their ranks. A day later scouts returned, reporting a not-insignficant army heading up the road. The commander of Wu Wei's expedition, Jian Yun, conferring with his colleagues, Luo Ser and Dan Yu, surveyed the situation and effected an orderly retreat.

Shi Wukong's army quits the field.

Double Invasion of Puyang!

Turn 1:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 100 Morale, 200 Gold, 5000 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 100 Morale, 500 Gold, 6000 Food.
Weather: Thunderstorm

Ling Han tries to move onto the supply depot, but realizes he can't because the supply depot doesn't exist yet. Doh!
Shi Jin can't see the enemy doing much of anything yet and so does nothing too.
Zhuge Dun moves east into the hills and builds a Supply Depot with lots of goodies stashed in it. (-500 Gold) Ling Han kicks him for being slow.
KongBu DaiFu doesn't want to advance on his own, and can't anyway since with his buddies in front there's nowhere to go other than into the water, which looks very cold.
Tan Ju makes his way into the hills too, moving farther east than Zhuge Dun.
Bei Nu grabs his horses and gallops ahead around to the east side of Puyang's walls, sneering at his comrades left eating his (muddy) dust.
Lan Shi Hong moves into the woods northeast of her and sneaks around very sneakily. Her soldiers stare at her like she's mad.
Shang Shao follows Shi Jin's lead... and stays put.
The two advisors sit around and play dice.

Turn 2:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 95 Morale, 200 Gold, 4620 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 95 Morale, 0 Gold, 5580 Food.
Weather: Rainy

Ling Han moves onto the supply depot which now exists! Hurray!
Shi Jin continues to stare at the enemy for a while, trying hard to figure out what they're doing, but nothing just seems to quite fit his ideas. Eventually he decides he has to do something, and waves his army out to march forward. Burdened not only by his own armor but the supplies and the mud, he struggles mightily to move through the groves of trees before him.
Zhuge Dun changes the formation of his soldiers to be more defensible.
KongBu DaiFu tries to catch up to Shi Jin. It's not very hard. He plays dice with Wu Yong in the meanwhile while laughing at Shi Jin's struggles.
Tan Ju doesn't leave his hilly spot.
Bei Nu suddenly reins his horses in, slowing his advance. Maybe he realized that charging madly forward at the enemy by yourself when your allies are miles behind still isn't a great idea.
Lan Shi Hong turns invisible. Ooooooh.
Shang Shao starts up a game with KongBu, seeing who can make it look like the most effort to keep up with Shi Jin.
Advisors take naps. They're tired from all this hard work of sitting around and... uh. Yeah.

Turn 3:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 92 Morale, 200 Gold, 4240 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 92 Morale, 0 Gold, 5160 Food.
Weather: Rainy

Ling Han yawns, naps in the supply depot.
Shi Jin manages to make it out of the forest, finally.
Zhuge Dun wishes Ling Han would let him use the comfy cots in the supply depot instead of having to nap on the hillside.
KongBu DaiFu 'struggles' to keep up with Shi Jin. And by struggle, I mean uses a whole half of his MP.
Tan Ju moves over to the hills on the other side of the Supply Depot. Ling Han won't share the cots with him either, though.
Bei Nu makes up some signs to wave at the enemy, pointing out that he's over here, wouldn't they like to come fight him? Maybe his horses are too tired to move anymore.
Lan Shi Hong practices ninja'ing people.
Shang Shao merrily skips along down the road, making sure to keep Shi Jin in the lead, which means he doesn't go very far at all. Still.

Turn 4:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 89 Morale, 200 Gold, 3860 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 89 Morale, 0 Gold, 4740 Food.
Weather: Rainy

Shi Jin's tears of frustration are lost in the rain. KongBu and Shang dutifully plod along after him. Nobody else cares.

Turn 5:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 86 Morale, 200 Gold, 3480 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 86 Morale, 0 Gold, 4320 Food.
Weather: Snow

Shi Jin's tears turn into icicles as he slogs through the snow. KongBu and Shang stage mock battles using the icicle-tears as daggers.

Start of Turn 6:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 80 Morale, 200 Gold, 3100 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 80 Morale, 0 Gold, 3900 Food.
Weather: Snow

Positions here
More tactics by 4pm Pacific on Friday. And next time you send battle forces, make sure your skills are formatted properly, I had to change Zhang Gao's entire force to use semicolons instead of commas to separate skills, not to mention fix a typo. And Advisors get the Advisor unit type.
Zan Zhikun (36) 100*-67*-94*-39-67* Breeder(e); Jeer; Logistics; Military Engineer; Reversal; Scout; Siegecraft(e); Spy; Terrain; Trap
Also playing: Kan Ze, Ma Zhong and maybe other people you don't know. :P
Also glaring at evil red.

(Note: In addition to the tactical change made, there was also an error with food consumption. Apparently the tool doesn't account for Logistics' consumption discount. Morale loss per turn was correct, with the excess being the result of inclimate weather)

Double Invasion of Pu Yang, part 2!

Turn 6:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 80 Morale, 200 Gold, 3100 Food.
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 80 Morale, 0 Gold, 3900 Food.
Weather: Snow

Shi Jin continues slogging south, wishing the weather gods would stop laughing at him.
KongBu DaiFu decides that following this guy is kind of boring and splits off in a more westerly direction.
Tan Ju is visited by the ghost of Ma Su (no, not that Ma Su, the real Ma Su), which tells him that sitting in the hills is a bad idea. Or maybe he had too good of a view of the advancing armies up there and got nervous. Whatever the case, he gets up and moves a hex northeast.
Bei Nu finally gets back on his well-rested horses and gallops up and around Shi Jin, laughing at him too.
Shang Shao decides that Bei Nu is cooler and tries to follow him insted of Shi Jin. Unfortunately, Shi Jin is encamped in the grasslands in front of Bei Nu, and Shao just can't quite muster the effort to climb the snow-covered hills to go around him and has to settle for waiting behind Shi Jin.
Zhuge Dun is also visited by the ghost of Ma Su (no not that Ma Su...) and leaves his hill, moving east.
Lan Shi Hong is still invisible. Maybe she was the ghost...
Ling Han thinks that the just-vacated hill spots are more prime real estate than his supply depot, and moves east to take up Tan Ju's old spot.

Turn 7:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 150 Troops, 74 Morale, 200 Gold, 2720 Food
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 140 Troops, 74 Morale, 0 Gold, 3480 Food
Weather: Rainy

Shi Jin turns westward, glad that it's back to just rain, even if some of it is turning into ice on the surface of the snow. As he passes through the valley between the rows of hills he yells at his men who are having snowball fights with the icy remnants and he gets struck in the head. At this point, someone notifies him that it wasn't a snowball that hit him, but a rock. Looking up, he can see that it's true, there are quite a lot of rocks falling from the hills and hitting not only him... (Rockslide Trap succeeds: Shi Jin -7)
KongBu frowns in consternation at his orders. He can't make it to his destination on time if he takes the time to scout out his path. Deciding that it'd be safer to stay behind Shi Jin, he settles for moving south over the northern hills next to him, not progressing farther quite yet.
Tan Ju, seeing the supply depot vacated, takes the opportunity to move in and enjoy the relative comfort.
Bei Nu heads as far south as he can before advancing west carefully. He gets the bright idea of checking the hill just west of where Shi Jin ran afoul of a trap, and his scouts warn him that sure enough, it's a trap! (Probe succeeds) He sensibly steers south of that hill and runs straight into Zhuge Dun guarding Ling Han's east flank! (ZD -8, BN -5)
Shang Shao follows along behind Bei Nu. Unable to get in on the action, he decides to launch a night raid on Ling Han! The nervous soldiers, not quite expecting this from what quick training they'd received, follow along and still manage to do a little damage and escape unscathed. (LH -1, -5 Morale Chen Ping's Army, +5 Morale Zhang Gao's Army)
Zhuge Dun sees Bei Nu's horses and scoffs, setting up a defensive spearwall and launching an assault against the small cavalry force. (Wall, BN -8, ZD -3)
Lan Shi Hong decides ninja'ing is over-rated and switches to raid mode instead. It doesn't go as well as hoped, but thanks to her immense talent, she manages to keep it under control. (BN -1, LSH -2, -5 Morale Zhang Gao Army, +5 Morale Chen Ping Army)
Ling Han joins in on the fracas, moving to the south of Zhuge Dun and Charging the shrinking cavalry unit as he yells something really inspiring. (Inspire, Charge: BN -11 [wiped out], LH -3; -10 Morale Zhang Gao Army, +5 Morale Chen Ping Army, Bei Nu escapes)
Wu Yong thinks about doing something, but decides that Zhuge Dun, the only target in ploy range, isn't worth the effort.
Bei Xin has more energy in him and uses it to unleash some discord among Shang Shao's troops! (Discord success)

Turn 8:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 118 Troops, 62 Morale, 200 Gold, 2437 Food
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 125 Troops, 77 Morale, 0 Gold, 3105 Food
Weather: Overcast

Shi Jin ignores the fighting going on south of the hills and continues westward towards Tan Ju. Unfortunately, the fleeing Bei Nu never gave him the memo about the other Rockslide trap. :( (Rockslide Trap succeeeds: Shi Jin -6)
KongBu is now really confused about what to do, as his desired target isn't in range of his desired spot to camp anymore, and Shi Jin is still getting nowhere fast so he can't use him as a shield for an advance. He eventually decides that staying out of harm's way is the most important thing, and stays behind Shi Jin.
Shang Shao, his men still aflutter with Bei Xin's trickery, decides another raid on Ling Han would be better than getting into a straight-up brawl. He lights some torches and starts to head off towards the enemy camp, before his men yell at him for being an idiot since the torch will give him away. Deciding to save the fire for some point when he's figured out a way to bring it along secretly, he sets off again, a few companies of soldiers in tow. Sadly, some of them didn't catch on when Shao discarded his torch and bring their own, with the predictable result of being spotted a mile away and driven off. (SS -3)
Zhuge Dun continues to press the attack, moving forward and harries the already distressed Shang Shao. (Wall, SS -8, ZD -2)
Tan Ju gets comfy in the supply depot, watching other people do stuff.
Lan Shi Hong moves in a little more and continues her raiding ways against KongBu DaiFu. This one goes a little better. (KD -1, -5 Morale Zhang Gao Army, +5 Morale Chen Ping Army)
Ling Han moves ahead to join Zhuge Dun again in beating on the same opponent, this time Shang Shao. (Charge, SS -17, LH -3)
Wu Yong finally decides to do something, going and getting a bunch of chocolate and bribing some of Ling Han's men into defecting. (Rumor, LH -3, SJ +3)
Bei Xin one-ups the other advisor, sending still more agents into Shang Shao's camp. It takes a lot of fast talking as people there are already suspicious, thinking of the discord already caused, but eventually they still manage to fall for Xin's claims. (Confuse success)

Turn 9:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 86 Troops, 55 Morale, 200 Gold, 2437 Food
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 117 Troops, 80 Morale, 0 Gold, 3105 Food
Weather: Rainy

Shi Jin shakes his fist at the hills and continues westward towards his targets: Tan Ju and Lan Shi Hong, sure that since he's moving away from the hills he can't possibly fall into another rockslide trap. He's right. This time, it's a fire trap. The flames die quickly in the renewed bout of rain, which Shi Jin can finally thank for something instead of curse, but the damage is already done. (Fire Trap success: SJ -5)
KongBu tentatively decides that he can still be considered 'behind' Shi Jin now by some definition if he moves to his desired position, the hill that had previously caused Shi Jin such fun. He attempts to scatter a wide burst of arrows onto both Zhuge Dun and Ling Han's armies, but comes up short, only a few falling among any of the enemy. (Volley fails: ZD -5)
Shang Shao starts angrily trying to beat some sense into his discordant, confused troops. He manages to quickly bring the discord under control and re-form his lines, but his men are still confused about why exactly he's beating up on his own soldiers and won't actually do anything.
Zhuge Dun, seeing Ling Han along next to him, gets the idea of having them both attack the beleagured Shang Shao at the same time! The confused and rapidly shrinking army can barely muster any sort of retaliation. (Simultaneous Attack: SS -16, ZD -1, LH -1)
Tan Ju yawns, enjoys the show.
Seeing Shang Shao's plight, Lan Shi Hong decides he looks like an easy target, and tries to sneak up on him with another raid. Unfortunately, with only six hundred men left, Shang Shao doesn't exactly have a large sprawling camp that's easy to sneak around in, and the raiding unit is quickly beat off. (LSH -3)
Wu Yong grumbles about having to work again and sends some agents off to convince Lan Shi Hong's soldiers to desert her. However, these agents fail so badly that Lan Shi Hong's sweet talk would have convinced them to defect to her side had they not already been ordered to be especially cautious of tricks!
Seeing Shang Shao starting to regain control over his unit, Bei Xin disrupts it again. (Discord success)

Turn 10:
Shi Jin, Zhang Gao's Invaders: 65 Troops, 52 Morale, 200 Gold, 2289 Food
Ling Han, Chen Ping's Invaders: 112 Troops, 77 Morale, 0 Gold, 2769 Food
Weather: Rainy

Shi Jin almost doesn't want to move now after all those traps, but proceeds to march forward, without falling into any more traps, and engage Lan Shi Hong in combat. (LSH -10, SJ -4)
KongBu tries another Volley attack, this time managing to pull it off. (LH -5, ZD -4)
Shang Shao fumes as his few remaining soldiers continue to act like they don't know who he is and refuse to obey.
Zhuge Dun has his two hundred men attack Shang Shao. It's really effective. (SS -1, ZD -1)
Tan Ju sees the situation starting to turn against them and leaves the comforts of the supply depot to attack KongBu DaiFu's archers. The untrained rabble he leads have some trouble making it up the hill to attack, but manage to knock a good number of bowmen off their perch nonetheless. (KD -11, TJ -3)
Lan Shi Hong doesn't have the energy to muster for another raid, especially after her earlier failure, and decides to just go for a conventional attack. Ignoring Shi Jin on her flank, she also moves forward to assail KongBu's archers. (-5 KD, -2 LSH)
Ling Han doesn't want to deal with another round of arrows and scampers back to the apparent safety of the supply depot.
Wu Yong scowls about his earlier attempt on Lan Shi Hong and vows revenge, this time attempting to confuse her soldiers rather than get them to desert. (Confuse success)
Bei Xin just shakes his head, having no more work to do for now since Shang Shao is already confused and discorded.

Map of Bei Ping
Notes: Ji's army will start (guess where? Guess where!?) along the western road. Bei Ping's army may start anywhere inside the city, on the city walls, or adjacent to a gate. They may start in that little lower-wall area if they would like. Also, this map was made in V4, back when there was a difference between deep water and shallow water. Ignore the little -1s in all the deep water hexes--All water is regular water now.

The "Battle" For Nan Hai

Aided by their watchtowers and the early word of enemy movements they received, the defensive armies of Nan Hai arrive in the field very swiftly. Commander-in-Chief Xu He Ping sets out the army's array and awaits the arrival of the invaders, safe in the knowledge that reinforcements are marching fast to his aid.

Heavy rains fall and lightning begins to crack the sky, but no invading army ever arrives. Some of the locals are rounded up and questioned, and they reveal that Ma Qingcao's army had turned back, awed at the sheer size of the enemy array before them!

Ma Qingcao quits the field without a fight! Nobody gains any Experience, Training, or loses any resources. Have a nice day!

Double Invasion of Pu Yang (is it Triple Invasion now?), Month 2!

Turn 11:
Zhang Gao's Invaders: 44 Troops, 49 Morale, 200 Gold, 2187 Food
Chen Ping's Invaders: 80 Troops, 94 Morale, 0 Gold, 2529 Food
Chen Ping's Reinforcing Invaders: 110 Troops, 100 Morale, 500 Gold, 5000 Food
Weather: Thunderstorm

The dawn of March sees Zhang Gao's armies in great turmoil. After toiling through snow and storm all through February, their great efforts all came to be in vain as the traps of Tan Ju successfully stalled Zhang Gao's commander, Shi Jin, separating him from the rest of the army. Split apart from each other, each commander of Zhang Gao's saw little success and great failure.

With bowed head, Shi Jin observed the battlefield before him, his advisor Wu Yong standing close at hand. The rain that had tormented them throughout the previous month had not let up. It continued to pour down, drenching their spirits, their will to fight, and their optimism. Zhang Gao was not known for taking failure with good grace. What fate would befall them upon their return to Bei Hai after this disastrous endeavour? Victory was laughable. Requests for reinforcing armies to support the invasion had apparently been rejected, as no word reached their ears, no violet banners appeared from the east. Only the bright banners of Chen Ping could be seen, drawing closer and closer while the few allies they had remaining struggled under the already dominating enemy army...

And so, taking a brief counsel with each other, a new plan was launched by the commander and advisor. Together, they counted up all of their own personal wealth as well as the money from the cache of supplies that was to have gone to the treasury of Pu Yang, in a world more favorable to their victory. Going among the troops personally, Wu Yong explained to them all exactly what the situation was and how Zhang Gao would surely execute them all if they returned with only failure to report like this, while Shi Jin followed along distributing gold. With merely 3100 soldiers left and 1200 gold to distribute among them, many soldiers were staggered at the wealth gained and were ready to follow the two leaders where-ever they may go. A few realized what was up and quietly decided they could not turn their back on their lord, slipping quietly off in the night, but most of the army remained as Shi Jin ordered the banner of Zhang Gao to be taken down and raised the standard of Chen Ping in its place.

Shi Jin and Wu Yong have defected! -35 Morale Zhang Gao, +15 Morale Chen Ping Army! 10 Heavy Infantry return to Bei Hai, 21 remain with Shi Jin's army.

Thinking not of only themselves, however, the two latest additions to Chen Ping's army sent out messages to their former comrades, Shang Shao and KongBu DaiFu, explaining their reasons and urging them to put down their weapons and turn away from Zhang Gao as well.

After sending out the messages, Shi Jin and Wu Yong wait a bit for a response, but are unwilling to delay long and lose their momentum. Having heard nothing and sensing his advantage slipping away, Shi Jin yells to his army, inspiring the defense, and moves to attack KongBu DaiFu's archers, sending the last of the bowmen fleeing in terror. (-8 KongBu, -1 Shi Jin, -10 Morale Zhang Gao, Chen Ping already at max morale; KongBu escapes)
Following the lead of Shi Jin, Xiang Ren also marches his armies eastward, passing south of Ling Han and hunting down the last of Shang Shao's scattered troops. (SS -5, XR -1; Shang Shao escapes)

(Okay, that was kind of pointless...)

Final tallies
Zhang Gao's armies: Nothing but the 10 Heavy Infantry that escaped!

Chen Ping's armies:
Shi Jin: 20 (49) Heavy Infantry
Ling Han: 9 (100) Infantry
Zhuge Dun: 1 (100) Infantry
Tan Ju: 62 (0) Infantry
Lan Shi Hong: 8 (100) Infantry
4716 Food

Xiang Ren: 34 (46) Infantry
Gan Zui Xiong: 40 (69) Infantry
Ten Zu: 35 (46) Archers
500 Gold, 5000 Food

All of Chen Ping's surviving troops gain 5 Training and all officers on both sides gain normal battle experience. Chen Ping gains 1 Respect, Zhang Gao loses 2 Respect and 1 Reputation.

Chen Ping may now press on to fight the defenders of Pu Yang for control of the city if he wishes. I'm sure he doesn't want to though so we'll just assume he doesn't... yeah, right. :P Results of the free city battle will be posted in Admin Comm later as usual.

--He Fei--
Nobody seems to mind the construction project. A fort in He Fei? What could that possibly matter?

--Hansong--
Miao Li Hoau's army does not contest the construction here, either.

--Tian Shui--
Tian Shui meets Wu Wei's army in a field battle, with reinforcements coming from Xi Ping.
