At this rate we're all going to be old before v6.

That being said, let's just be happy when it's out, it's not like this was some crowdfunded thing anyone stuck cash into.

I was 16 when I joined in v3 (I think?) - and have just about doubled in age since! I would probably help crowd-fund this, to be honest! Would be nice to have a sim to log onto every now and then. :)

Some of us are old already! ;)

And yeah, this is a world of Patreon and Kickstarter now, but I'm definitely not going to ask for anyone's money until there's actually something to pay for. And probably not even then. The last thing we really need is people accusing the staff of being bribed, right?

Now, bribing just to get a game, that's one thing, but bribing for favourable treatment? That's a no-no.

Genuine question though, what are the current issues?

I don’t have any stats, but it feels like there are a fair few people hovering around the site, watching. Waiting. When the map tool went up it felt like a fantastic, positive step forward. RP started. And then things just sort of... died? I mean I might have missed it as I only visit the site now and again, but I am curious.

EDIT: Ah, I found Taishi Guang's post a few pages back. That seems to explain it.

For easy reference for those interested in what Smith meant.

What if instead of this Grand Strategy™℠®© + RPG direction the game has always tried to go in, why not scale it down? There is so much history associated with this time period and so much material to draw from that smaller conflicts could instead be blown up and expanded upon to give a more directed story based approach. Keep the game small and sleek, rather than let the game be the giant bureaucratic sand-box nightmare that each version invariably and inevitably always grows to?

The amount of calculations that need to be done by hand is daunting, and the load only grows as kingdoms expand. Cities, Reputation, Officer Ranks, Food, Gold, Buildings, NPC's, Troops, Equipment, Spying, Initiating/Resolving other plots, Calculating which PC's and NPC's give the most reward for any given task, not to mention the Personal Turns everyone also has to calculate by hand, and I'm 100% positive there are things I'm still forgetting to include. The logistics alone for drafting and organizing troops could take hours. And god forbid another situation arises where a Kingdom/Ruler suddenly issues a game-changing proclamation 1 hour from the turn deadline, forcing the already sluggish week long affair of drafting, proofreading, and finalizing a Kingdom Turn to have to be rushed all over again to account for the sudden change. All of this culminates into some serious burnout only a couple turns into the game as activity wanes and fewer hands are available to do the work, thus increasing the pressure and burnout of those who are left, who then leave, and you can see the cycle repeating itself until we all collectively sigh and just declare someone a winner when the four people who are left at the end of it all simply cannot will the machine to move any longer.

Start with something relatively simply. Everyone loves a good Yellow Turban Rebellion scenario if the ROTK games are any indicator. Have the players join either the Han, the Rebels, maybe even throw in a mysterious or independent 3rd faction for some added flair. That's it. The staff would be responsible for their assigned historical figures, as always, players join which kingdom they want, as always, build a character they think they would enjoy, as always, and try and annoy each other, as always. Have each player be responsible for their own unit, their own personal action and their own kingdom action, with the math being severely trimmed down for a more streamlined experience. Maybe take a page out of D&D and instead have stats cap out at a max of 20 instead of 100, or use modifiers to keep things simpler? Have each turn take a specific and set amount of time (with exceptions for holidays and the like), and if you miss your turn, oh well c'est la vie.

I think the best balance would be if the emphasis was put on speed with bonuses given to those who like to invest in the roleplaying, thus rewarding those who take the extra time to give the site the soul and personality it's always had and to further encourage more activity.

TL;DR - No more Huge Empire Builders. Games get too big and Implode. Smaller scenarios driven by RP and RPG elements that are simpler to run, with Player Choice and Involvement being the catalyst we always wanted it to be.

As much as I adore the Grand Strategy version of RTK and want that to happen in V6, the (seeming) size of the playerbase now leaves me no choice but to agree that a smaller-scale scenario might be called for to continue the game. I'd certainly love to see it resume, one way or the other. :)

Same. I got pretty sad over it for a minute, but i'm glad it's still kicking. How has everyone been spending their down time? My wife and I bought our first house, and we brought 2 kittens in to keep our older 2 cats company. :tiger:
