Bio: Liao Ju was the son of an officer in the Imperial army. His father sent him to be tutored in Shou Chun when he was a boy and was taught how to sail and wield a sword. His wit was sharp but the boy never applied himself, his elders claimed if his attitude had been better that he could have put his father to shame. It didn't matter to him, all he wanted to do in those days was sail.
As he became a teenager he became less interested in his political studies and often devoted more time to harnessing his powers with a bow winning several small tournaments. It was around this time that his father passed away while fighting barbarians just north of Bei Di. Liao Ju fell into a depression and isolated himself from his friends. He would spend days at a time away from the classroom and on the fields with his bow. After several years of his schooling being ignored and his rebellious attitude, his master forsook him and sent him back to Luo Yang to join the Imperial Army as an enlisted soldier. It is here that he learnt how the military actually worked becoming friends with his fellows while harbouring a hatred for the officers who could only give orders.
He spent most of his twenties in the army fighting bandits and barbarian invaders, he watched many friends die and killed many himself. He felt he wasn't special but was promoted to sergeant for his services. In a battle west of Jin Yang he made an impression on his Detachment Commander after striking the enemy leader with his bow with one shot and was promptly rewarded and introduced to the commanding officer, here he met Xu Wei Long. Xu Wei Long had been an Imperial officer for 30 years but had never raised far in rank due to his unorthodox political beliefs and coming towards the end of his career had wanted to teach another to carry on for him. Liao Ju became his student and taught him eventually becoming an officer under Xu Wei Long.
By the time he reached his mid thirties, Liao Ju had become a known to the soldiers of his unit, he was second to none with a bow and could command troops on Skirmishers and Warships. They fought in many campaigns together rising in ranks to Captain and Lieutenant. As the rebellion broke out it was obvious to Xu Wei Long that the Imperial Army had become to transfixed with defending Luo Yang and that if Wan fell it would be disastrous. Expressing his concerns to Liao Ju, he offered to be dispatched to Wan in order to try halt the rebels advance. Xu Wei Long was delighted at the suggestion, despite having to face the rebels without him. With his heart more at ease the two men said their farewells as Liao Ju travelled to Wan.
