Any character that has the female nü (女) as a component typically is feminine.

I take it you want a male name?

@webby & Tian Long, thanks. How about their real name? Perhaps I read it somewhere or just notice it, but it seems name for brothers (and sisters?), aside from having the same surname, also have the same middle name. Something like Li Yan Er, Li Yan Yan, Li Yan Ming, etc.

Is that true?

Typically in religious and martial sects, naming conventions ensure a shared name that helps denote generation between members of the sect, though some families do incorporate this into their given names (usually for large, extended families that live together). In this era, it's actually more likely to pop up in the style name rather than in the actual given name, as the use of compound given names isn't all that widespread during this era.

I will remark that Xiu (秀) is a very common component of modern Korean girls' names (Soo) :tiger:

This as Cao Chao's bi-lingual fu is greater than mine.
As for familial relations, the surname determines that and keep in mind that in this era surname's do not change for women because of marriage and they can change through an adoption into another family (See Cao Cao who I believe was born a Xiahou)

Is there an interpretation for 'Heart of Gold' for a style name. Maybe not a literally one but perhaps something to describe the character as having:

  • A conscience?
  • Secretly kind/gentle?
  • Altruistic, but veiled beneath arrogance?

I like the style name Hénshē 痕猞, but was wondering if it is appropriate for a male character. (can't find feminine/masculine references).

Also, seeing as style names and given names are related, I need one that goes along with this. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
