Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

Postby Hian Huang Tzu » 01 May 2004, 18:07

I've noticed that our loveable RTK doesn't have a anime discussion thread, so I've gone and created one. I watched quite a few animes, Tenchi Muyo, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, Chobits and a few more but not completly such as the origanl Dragon Ball and Gundam series. I'm not what you call a huge anime fan but I've really being getting into it recently since I've being at college. Currently though I'm watching a realitively new series, Full Metal Alchemist that is being screened in Japan. It is AWESOME :D . Anyway what anime has everyone else watched and what does everyone think of it? Begin Discussion.

well like Hian Huang Tzu said all the Tenchi series Gundum Wing was a definate favourite. i watched the entire Dragonball Z and GT {GT was the worst series i ever saw} and halfway through Dragonball. I watched a Giant Robo film which was amazing but i can't find it anywhere :twisted: I watched Spirited Away the other day and i thought it was just magical and i also have Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Blood the Last Vampire (which sucked might i add) Well Duel Monsters is about to begin in England {Yay} so i shall be checking that out. Neon Genisis Evanglion, Devilman which was just ill. I watched Salior Moon for a few episodes and just turned it off cos it was so boring. thats it really i haven't watched much of the unknown stuff but i wanna check out Rah Expeon {i Think}

But hey if you have any suggestions for Anime/Manga we should check out just lay them down here

You mean "serial experiments lain"? Yes, I've seen it and I also own it (I'm not into cheating the creators out of money by downloading it :p). Other than the story, the art is truly amazing. So amazing that I'm driven to buy any show with art done by Yoshitoshi ABe... of course, all of the stories are good as well, but the art is something else. :)

Yeah u're right it's Serial Experiment Lain, not only the art the whoe thing is just amazing. The music is something else to. It's funny how the creator made lain so vivid and full of life so to say. I sorta got the feeing that however Lain feels, we feel to, such depth in the character. I don't know its the most amazing anime i've seen so far. What other movies did that guy make.

Yoshitoshi ABe has done the art (and sometimes story) for - NeiA_7, serial experiments lain, Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze and most likely others, but that's all that comes to mind right now.

Ranma 1/2 is the best anime/manga series ever. Oh! So is Urusei Yatsura.... and Tenchi Muyo! seems to do everything right. Cutey Honey is good for laughs and a cool theme song. Lesee... Oh! The original Vampire Hunter D is a classic, it's what got me into anime in the first place. The entire Dragonball/Z/GT series because I love Akira Toriyama's art style and sense of humor. Project A-Ko/Vs. Battles are good too. Dominion Tank Police is a favorite of mine. Never been a fan of Sailor Moon though, even with all the blatant underage lesbianism... ;)

I like Inuyasha too. I'm a big Gundam Wings fan though. Although Gundam G wasn't that bad. Rurouni Kenshin isn't bad too. I didn't like Ghost in the Shell though by Menga it was to confusing. I'm waiting for Inuyasha to come on in the U.S.

I worship 3 anime above all.

First:

Ayashi No Ceres.

Excellent Anime. Just freakin' cool. Not the dub though. The dub is TERRIBLE.

Second:

Pretear

Also excellent. Sailor Moon-esque but still excellent. Good characters and a semi-deep plot.

Third:

Haibane Renmei

Really sad anime in the end. Beautifully written and with two good main characters.

I also like a lot of other anime that fit in a generic clump. >>;

As you've probably noticed most of the anime I've watched has all being screened on cartoon network so I dont get to see anime like "serial experimant Lain", although a friend of mine at college has recommened I cant find it in shops :cry: . Seen a couple of episoes of Ranma 1/2 though. Very funny.
Gundam Wing is probably my favourite I've seen practically all the episodes on cartoon network. I didnt enjoy the moive though.

The Gundam Wing film was good it was just editited horribly and had all blood and realism taken out so they could show it to young kids who could watch it before the watershed. If you watch the un editited version then i think you'll have a change of heart.

i watched Neon Genisis the first movie and was completely baffled{Word of the day} It was so confusing but the battles were good. but when i saw the second film it made a little more sense {But not much more} and was a whole lot cooler. Well has anyone seen my Favourite Anime Escaflowne?
That was one cool programme they need to bring back. also hows people finding Shaman King? i thought it was quite good?
