RCS wrote:Like I said, it's gamey. It broke me out of the experience. I didn't feel like a citizen trapped in a warzone, I felt like a dude playing a game. In game development there's a lot of talk of story through mechanics. This was not achieved, in my opinion.

Fair enough, I can get where it at times feels like just a game versus an immersive experience true to life.

RCS wrote:Occasionally, yes. But there's no explanation in-game to state that. Same with how the person guarding the shelter can't pop a new filter into the rainwater collector while he's patrolling the grounds. It's just gaminess.
But when I've got four people and three of them are in good health, and I have a fortified door and no holes in my walls...why do I have to let one guy go out searching while three people sleep in beds? Why not send two people out to scavenge?
Somebody's starving? Great, why don't you go to the place that only has a few pieces of food and bring it back...I'll go get a bunch of building supplies on the other side of town. Nope, starve because we need to finish this veggie garden!

Well, I get the sense that their 'morale' system is along those lines, but true, there's not really anything in the game that says why people can't do these things, but it would probably be kind of hard for you to control each of these things as well, and by hard, I mainly mean time consuming. If people could do things at night, or you could send out multiple people, a 45 day run through might take you a few real life days to do, granted some people might relish that too. They would've almost had an easier time being more 'realistic' in that respect if they didn't let you have up to 5 people at any given time, like maybe making the game about being one dude, trying to survive (not like Marko's solo start), for the entire playthrough. Maybe make it more about your 'character' having to coexist with their group, versus you controlling 4 people to do various tasks.

RCS wrote:I'm playing as the character. If I don't think it, myself, the game has to tell me the character does. It doesn't. The game just says it took you 6 hours to get back from the place it only took you an hour to get to. Every time! If it was an occasional thing, okay, it's something you have to plan for. But whether I finish hunting for scrap duct tape at ten in the evening or 4 in the morning...I still walk in that door at 6 a.m.

That's true too. the 'occasionaly' bio updates on each character give backstory, and occasionally why they feel sad/content, but they could've done a lot more into the overall how people are doing in general, vs the random comments they make walking around about being hungry, or it being cold. If anything, a person would not say the exact same thing 20 times a day, just to let you know it's 'chilly' inside. I guess I'll kind of cede this point to you, though we could just say they didn't really want to code every possible outcome people might take, like scavenging quickly vs taking a lot of time. I understand, once the bandits in say the brothel are dead, you just kind of run in, grab a bunch of stuff and head home, cuz you know what you want, and have to make many trips just to get it all anyways. They should've put little mini-events (basically just text to read) of what happened going to/from locations, and then at least you'd feel like something was going on in between locations. :|

RCS wrote:If Bruno's got a fever, and Katia's bleeding from the hand, and I am desperate to help them...why am I not hitting one location that I know has bandages and one that I know has medicine? I have to decide who dies because...game mechanics? And suddenly I'm just a dude playing a game, again. A dude that just killed the character I like better (Katia) because Good Cook is a way better skill than her 'Barter's Well' one.

As a couple asides real quick, sickness goes way too quick in this game (for me anyways :P ) and why does everyone not think Katia is good? Trading from Franko is just an amazing way to start off right, and only really Katia can do that for you. Plus unlike half the people who carry 8 or 10 things, she has 12 slots which is really amazing unless you have Marko or Boris. Also bartering is forever, cooking is until you upgrade the stove.

More on point, I'll give that one up. If two people were dying, you probably wouldn't come home till you found both things, or at least tried to find both things. I understand being wounded being a day to day life threatening thing in the game, but just because it's like 59 degrees out, I'll never understand how people get deathly ill in like 3 days. These people aren't outside in the wind naked for days at a time, they're fully clothed people in a house (sure, not a very stable/holeless one), with stuff to do, and apparently beds with covers on them. Hell, if it was really that bad to be in 50-60 degree weather for a day or two, you'd imagine they would huddle together for heat vs just sleeping apart from each other. 8-)

RCS wrote:That's great...if I hadn't just hit a tenement for the third time in a week to polish off the last of the duct tape and wires to make a heat lamp. There's nothing to process other than: My friends are hurt, or sick, or starving...and I can get back home and back out here in about two hours. It would only be two in the morning...nah, screw it I'll just sit around and watch the sunrise until six.

Pavle is a deep soul, he needs those sunrises to decompress, or else, what is he running fast for?

RCS wrote:Right, that was the goal. And all I said was that said goal was not met, in my opinion. It may just be because I have actual survivalist training and have seen what actual civilians in that situation have to do...it was a bunch of first world problems embossed on a besieged city setting to me.
Like I said, it was a fantastic idea...it was just too gamey to make me feel anything as remotely emotional as they intended. I hope that some day they make a sequel or something that improves upon these features. Until then, though...I'm disappointed with my purchase, personally.

Fair enough, not going to argue how you should feel from buying the game. Hopefully if they ever add a large amount of content, or make another game like this, they can expand upon it, and fix some of that stuff. I'm not sure it's ever going to stop being 'gamey' though, cuz well, it is a game. I'm not sure it's 100% just first world problems, but I get where you're coming from, at times it does feel like a first draft for the game.

Well, hopefully the n ext game treats you better then.

I bought it on release day when I got up for work and played it when I got home. Already put over 28 hours into it.

As Hojo Ujitsuna (Birth of Nobunaga Scenario) I have over a third the country either conquered or my vassals. Ashikaga Yoshiharu is my vassal and continually gives me gifts to appease me. Kamiizumi Nobutsuna grates on my nerves because he gave me an impossible task. I fought off and crushed an Anti-Hojo Coalition led by the Nagao clan. I have both Takeda Nobutora, Takeda Harunobu (Shingen), and Imagawa Yoshimoto all serving me as retainers. And I've got like...twenty foster daughters.

Now it's just the Date, Mogami, and Nanbu to my east - of which the Date is the most dangerous - and taking over the rest of the central plains (one of my governors just recently finished off the Imagawa and conquered the Matsudaira, ten moved onto to the Oda).

Not a bad game, over all, I'd say. I like finally being able to create my own clan in the game, although it's definitely a tough start if you want to go that route; surrounded by much more powerful clans, even ones you'd normally wipe away casually as another clan.

If you do custom clan, you're gonna be in a dinky fortress. You'll need to get some diplomatic action going and request reinforcing units to help you take castles for you. I was using the Hojo to fight for me.

You got that right. Started up a game to test the Create-a-Clan feature and placed myself right in the middle of the lower Kinai region. Sandwiched between the Tsutsui, Kitabatake, Miyoshi, and Saiga. Played for a few turns just to see how things would go and spied on all the surrounding castles to see what I was up against.
If one of them attacked me, I'd have been outnumbered. And Amaterasu forbid I tick off the Honganji!

Playing some of the stages as non-super-famous people can be kind of weird. I played the Sekigahara stage as Ukita Hideie...there are no events to get through. My first event was seven years into the game when I defeated the Fukushima and Ikeda clans and got Oribe Furutua who tasked me with an impossible quest: Get 3 Famous Tea Caddies. One of them I already own, one of them is in Tokugawa Ieyasu's hands, and one of them is in Toyotomi Hideyori's hands. So in order to get the quest completed I have to defect to the Tokugawa side, now that I've wiped out half the 'Eastern Army' Daimyo and conquer the Toyotomi. Yeah, not gonna happen.
Not to mention I started out completely surrounded by allies and had to build up food for over a year so I could make it far enough to attack someone without starving.

Just a few games I will be getting(already pre-ordered) in the next two months. Gaming is easy.

This will be the first year since 1994, however, that I will not get a football manager game.
