Anyway, I play Vampire by Whitewolf and a few friends and I are Psyched about "Underworld" that comes out this friday. I think it will be pretty sweet especally if your into the Masquerade and stuff like that. The storyline looks good and it looks as if it might be worth seeing. Anyone else agree or not?

One problem..the watch dogs of White Wolf are taking Sony to court saying Underworld is a infringement on their product. So if anyone wants to watch Underworld I would suggest watch it now before a court orders the showing the movie to stop. White Wolf's stance is that they have the rights to Vampire vs Werewolf mythos and no one else.

I find it ironic that this lawsuit didn't come out until about two weeks from the opening of the movie.

Ok, I know of 2 movies dealing with the supernatural coming out soon, and can't remember which one's which. One has a chick and looks awesome, the other has Heath Ledger and looks stupid.
If you noticed my profile has changed, you need a life. Also, PM me and help me get back into the flow of V6, so I can get rid of mine.

Actually, the lawsuit is not on the basis that only they have the rights of the Vampire/Werewolf Genre, it is actually on the basis of SONY stealing the storyline from something that Whitewolf directly wrote. The characters and events are almost exactly similar to a scenario in one of the Werewolf gamemaster guides. I don't think anyone has the right to copyright a mythic creature.

The whole story is based on the continueing adaptable Romeo & Juliet where two clans are feuding(Vampires and Werewolves) and the darling childs of both clans fall in love with each other. If White Wolf is going to go this route saying that Underworld is based on their gaming system then Anne Rice can literally sue them for millions for WW even admits that some of their work is based on her writings.

If you want to boil it all down vampires and werewolves are own by no one really as they are steeped in mythos and legend. I forsee WW being eaten alive by Sony as the Judge for the case shot down WW's case to put a temporary injunction on the movie. Here is a link to one short article on it..

Well, the movie opens friday. Knowing how slow the court system really is, I couldn't forsee the movie being put on halt. But if it does happen, I will be really upset of what the world has come to.

If it was really such an infringement why'd they even let it be made in the first place? That's my biggest question about this lawsuit mess. I think that those Whitewolf guys need to lay off. They can't be the only people out there with werewolves and vampires in their stories.

A lot of people are questioning the timing of the lawsuit and are saying that WW is doing it to get their name into the headlines once again. Also Sony has announced to make a video game based on Underworld using the same engine that WW is using for their game. So it pretty much looks like WW is trying to beat Sony to the punch and get recognition again. But then again WW is well known for attacking anyone who doesn't agree to their vision.

Isn't this true about all those greedy movie companies? I do believe I can say the world has become a legal battlefield in the last decade and I say this because people can't even enjoy stuff w\o such crap as lawsuits interfering somewhere. It's sickining. I wish for the days when there was less law and more life.

The definition of a great movie to me is a movie that has an outstanding, and compelling story and great acting. One of those movies would have to be Daredevil, which I saw for the first time a few days ago. Though there were loads of fake s*** in the movie, they were not too far beyond reason. The father-son story that went on about neither one ever giving up, was good, and so was the love story between Jen and Ben. My favorite part was when the reporter basically told Ben that he knew, then it changed over to Jen.

A must see movie.

If we're discussing any good movies we've ever seen, then i'll have to add a couple here:

Serious additions:

A Beautiful Mind

Can't discuss the story, since it will give away all the plot twists and such, but I reccomend the movie to absolutely everyone.

8 Mile

Honestly, I don't like Eminem, but the movie really was nowhere near as horrible as I thought it would be.

25th Hour

Ok, ok, so it's a rather confusing film. I still think it's a good movie, and you can't ever go wrong with Edward Norton.

More Humorous additions:

Tuk Everlasting

Mediocre film, but I just love that scene near the end at the police station. Won't ruin what happens.

Hackers

Angelina Jolie, Mathew Lilliard, that dude from Clockstoppers.....all as computer freaks taking on a major corporation, the Secret Service, and a fellow hacker blaming them for his own virus as he steals money from aforementioned corporation. Just funny watching these guys toy with electronics.

Yeah, I'm hoping to see Underworld this weekend. I heard its bad, but not many people are into the whole vampire genre... well, critics aren't, anyways. I also want to see The Rundown. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I even heard some critic say that it was the best buddy comedy since 48 Hours, but critics tend to shoot their mouths off. Also, American Splendor looks quite dandy, too.

I thought I might as well add some movies to discuss as well.

American History X: It had a good, beleivable story about redemption.

Sleepy Hollow: Not so much for the plot and action, but for the sets and cinematography.

Patton: Quite possibly the greatest war movie ever made. Plenty of great lines and scenes, including my favorite one which takes place at the end. It damn near brought me to tears when I first saw it.

Office Space: Funny in both subtle and crazy ways with a nice anti-conformity message. Not to mention Jennifer Aniston's beautiful, yet clothed breasts.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: An artsy kung fu movie. Ah, the power of subtitles.

Shane: The purest western ever created.

Way of the Gun: It was pretty overlooked, but I loved the dialgue and messages in the movie.

Sleepy Hollow showed that even in horror Johnny Depp can be good humored and make it fun to watch. I like dthis one.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was kind of long and tedious except the fight between the two chichs, which was impressive.

Underworld probably falls under the catagory of "wait to rent it" for me.

Comments on other movies mentioned, and I few I wanted to add in:

American History X - May be the finest performance Ed Norton has given (and that is saying a lot). Powerful message, great acting all around.

Godfather - In my opinion, the greatest movie ever made. All star cast including Marlon Brando, Al Pacinio, Robert Duvall, James Caan, and Diane Keaton. Terrific feel to the movie.

Tombstone - The best western I have ever seen. Some great scenes like when Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) punks out Billy Bob Thorton's character and any scene with Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday are worth seeing over and over again. Kilmer gave what I consider to be one of the greatest performances ever.

Patton - Great war flick. George C. Scott just dominates that film.

The Enemy Below - Older movie, but is easily the best submarine movie made. Told from both sides (an American destroyer captain played by Robert Mitchum and a German sub commander played by Kurt Jurgens), its a great game of cat and mouse.
