Yeah it really sounds like it could be a fun mode but you're clearly disenfranchised by this new one, which is a real shame. I never got to try 7XL but I, too, would love to see 5 fleshed out and with more freedom (even Destiny mode could've evolved into something really fun - imagine incorporating it with an Empires-style mode!)

I'll get to try 8 around my friend's house on Monday :)

I'm being harsh, but I actually did enjoy the "what if" storylines added to DW. Like I said, they were done fantastically and they pretty much fulfill any fanboy's dream.

But yeah objectively speaking 8 adds very little to the previous DW except slightly altered battle system, story branches, and the new characters. It needs the criticism where it deserves.

I've been enjoying 8 quite a bit. The gameplay has been tweaked and it seems to be the most polished iteration of the DW franchise.

I wish Koei would make an rtk rpg where you create an officer for one of the three kingdoms and help lead it to victory. It'd be great if they tried something new with the setting.

So. I assume people have heard of Hyrule Warriors? Basically Zelda with Dynasty Warriors gameplay.

Let me guess, you were doubtful about the existence of Nobunaga's Ambition X Pokémon as well, weren't you? You need to have more faith in these mashups!

So, first impressions of the new characters for Xtreme Legends? I still don't feel like getting it given how disappointed I have been with the past few Xtreme Legends. But in any case...

Yu Jin - I like it. I always pictured Yu Jin as a competent guy, but way too serious and prone to stressing out when things go bad, hence his surrender to Guan Yu. The "no fun allowed" depiction of him resonates quite well with my image.

Zhu Ran - Dislike. I'm getting tired of the young, spirited, "new generation" characters that have been popping up these last few installments. He seems way too much like the Shu kids. His bow and moveset look really cool though; I always hated Xiahou Yuan and Huang Zhong's bow attacks because they have to hold stationary. Zhu Ran actually moves around via his attacks.

Fa Zheng - Iffy. In one way, I like his sort-of-sinister look. It goes well for a guy who was so willing to sell out his own lord so easily. On the other hand, another damn Shu kid. His weapon looks stupid.

Chen Gong - I'm somewhat torn. I like Chen Gong's typical presentation as a good-natured man who followed a foolish Lu Bu. On the other hand, I discussed before it seems quite strange Chen Gong could be such a bastard as backstabbing Cao Cao, taking over Liu Bei's lands, and even suggesting allying with Yuan Shu despite being typically portrayed as a good moral Han supporter. The schemey, ambitious look he gets in Xtreme Legends has a lot of potential. His weapon looks as dumb as Fa Zheng's.

Lu Lingqi - Absolutely love her. She has a great mix of looking cute, yet badass at the same time. I love that she's using the doublr cross-edged weapon Lu Bu was using in 6, except now she can split it in two for more utility. I never really liked Lu Lingqi in Dynasty Tactics; too much of an annoying loudmouth buffoon. I like the more serious demeanor she seems to have in the game.

So, news for Dynasty Warriors 8 E, which will be released for the PS3/4 this year and unlikely for the XBONE. Xun Yu is the new character confirmed for pictured above, Koei capitalizing on the while young handsome bishen men popularity. Stuff Koei has promised are:
-Much more CAW customization, with lots of generic base models
-Troops, banner, and horse customization
-Data carryover from previous games, likely, from DW:7 Empires and your created characters from there
-Marriage system will now allow you to get kids after some time. Not much information on how this will work

Things I hope for? The ending event stills from previous Empires before 7. God I hope they won't do those 20 second generic endings that 7 had. Hopefully many more troops in the battlefield since the enemy size scales in Empire games have been disappointing.

Is anyone else pumped up about DW 8 Empires coming out next month? I know I can barely contain myself. Based on what I've seen of the japanese version it looks like its going to be a beast of a game.

I heard that you could only play as each character twice. :(
Also I don't like the Title system because if you first play the Yellow turban rebellion as Sun Jian and you get him to one of the highest titles, on your next game playing as Kong Rong in the Dong Zhuo scenario (or whatever) Sun Jian will start destroying everyone because he will start off at level 50 (or something) and everyone else will be, at most, level 10.
I might be completely wrong, but from what I've seen I just came to that conclusion.

I am very happy they are finally releasing an empires game on PC, through Steam. It always felt weird how they would skip what would probably be the best platform for it.

I haven't heard about that, if thats true I guess its to encourage you to level your officers evenly? Though I could see that being a major point of contention for a lot of DW fans.

Edit: According to what I've seen in this guys streams you can play as the same character repeatedly. I could still be wrong since I haven't handled the game myself though.

LordSimaYi wrote:Sun Jian be getin' mad titles and be smashing everything up on new game +

Is that similar to the system in DW6E? I know that when starting a new game in that you can have characters start the game with all their old equipment and skills intact leading to some factions having an unfair advantage over others.

Yeah, Koei has always been a pretty staunch supporter of Sony platforms. I imagine it has a lot to do with the Playstation have a large market share in Japan which is Koei's main audience. As much as I'd like to play my koei games on my xbox I find Steam to be a viable alternative for me (though I can see how for many it may not be).

I'm really looking forward to being able to play the game on my PC via Steam since I'm without a TV at the moment. Curious to see how the marriage system will work. Will there just be a default kid or kid(s) that all couples get, or does the game have something that actually customizes their appearance based on the pairing?

From what I've seen the game randomly generates a kid who will inherit title from the parent with the highest ranked title. I don't know about how the stats or weapon preferences work though. From what I've seen it looks like the characters appearance is random, but since you can save them as a CAW you can just remake their appearance in the next game and they keep the stats and title they were born with. Or at least thats what I've seen through the streams I've watches.
